Free Palestine: Recognizing oppression

How would you explain the popularity of this narrative that the oppressed have to ensure the safety of the oppressors? Placing the question of violence at the forefront almost inevitably serves to obscure the issues that are at the center of struggles for justice

In 1948 the state of Israel was created through a declaration enacted by the British government that supplied persecuted Jewish settlers the home of Palestinians. This type of settlement is known as occupation whereas one entity exerts physical control over another. This issue is also apart of the larger systemic issue of imperialism. Jewish settlers were accommodated by directly benefiting from the land confiscated by British authorities. Eventually this led to armed resistance from Palestinians in the late 1930’s seeking to end the wrongful immigration. The cooperation between British forces and Jewish settlers combined proved to be lethal as they violently suppressed Palestinian resistors. Thousands of Palestinians were murdered by these forces, completely displaced from their homes, and forced to live under an oppressive apartheid government. As thousands of Jewish settlers claimed hold to seized land they adopted nationalism in the form of Zionist ideology, a reactionary movement to justify the destruction of Palestinian life. During the beginning of the Zionist movement settlers committed inexcusable crimes of destroying homes to further destabilize and control Palestinian land.

The “Nakba” is the most known example of this took place in 1947-1949 as the death and destruction toll rose. This catastrophe changed how we would view the conflict forever as Zionist seized, “78 percent of historic Palestine. The remaining 22 percent was divided into what are now the occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip.“ 40 more years of this conflict could be characterized by endless killings and intolerance of Palestinians resolve to fight for liberation. The state sponsored violence from Israeli forces radicalized all generations fighting for their return home. Notably, the formation of the “Hamas movement, an off-shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood that engaged in armed resistance against the Israeli occupation.” Palestinians learned to mobilize themselves against Israel even if the cost was death, a tip they cultivated and supported other liberation movements with.

Now as of October 7, Israel had scapegoated Hamas as a terrorist organization to justify the genocide and martyrdom of Palestinian civilians. Corporate media outlets have framed the genocide as a the “Israel-Hamas” war or conflict, however this is dangerously misleading. This is a clear and ongoing genocide due to lack of militia support, aerial assaults on hospitals, forced migration to southern areas and targeted killings of journalists. The Israeli government continues their genocidal efforts against Palestinian civilians as the world watches in horror and governments bide their time. There has been international condemnation from many countries with thousands of protesters calling for a ceasefire. A ceasefire would end the nightmarish bloodshed Palestinians are experiencing, however it’s only the first step towards decolonization, a plea that has so far fallen on deaf ears for those choosing profit over life. As of now over 11 thousand Palestinians have died within the past six week. This is an ongoing issue and Texas Girl Writes undoubtedly stands with liberation of Palestinian people and those suffering from colonization . “Free from the river to the Sea”
