T.G.W is committed to supporting local art collectives and Afro-American communities in Houston. The forum provides space for women to build sustainable relationships, devote time to artistic creation,

The mission of the virtual forum is dedicated to documenting and archiving the radical womanist tradition in Houston. Black social life in Texas deserves to be highlighted, our joy matters.

Each month and new topic or conversation will be introduced by a fellow writer or other Houstonians in real time. All T.G.W visitors are welcome to start their own discussions as long as they remain thoughtful and empathetic. It is greatly appreciated when visitors spend time engaging with ideas

In-Person:

The mission of the in-person forum is to create spaces for women to formulate new theories and practices that transform the radical tradition. It is important that we  develop a collective consciousness through education, organization and camaraderie.

  • Writers and non writers are encouraged to exchange stories that expand our perspectives.
  • The T.G.W collective partners with local businesses, artists, organizers and other groups in an effort to eliminate individualism and isolation.
  • All forums are open and free to the public (unless explicitly stated otherwise). Monetary and item based donations are welcome but not strictly enforced. We believe in trading, bartering, mutual aid, volunteering and other forms of communal assistance.

Currently Reading

Robin D. G. Kelley revisits Noam Chomsky’s landmark 1967 essay, “The Responsibility of Intellectuals,” published near the height of the Vietnam War. The essay’s dissident injunction—that those in privileged positions have a duty to “speak the truth and expose lies”—remains a powerful call to conscience, Kelley argues, but the anti-fascist and anti-colonial struggles of even earlier decades reveal its limits, and they show how to refuse and resist complicity in our own age of fascism and genocide.
